Dr. Chris Kellner Will Visit in November

Prairie Lizards in Arkansas; easy to study but difficult to figure out - Dr. Chris Kellner

Join us to hear from Dr. Chris Kellner on Thursday, November 11, at CORONADO CENTER for our monthly program.

From Dr. Chris Kellner:

This picture was taken in my office where I let my pet female house sparrow fly freely. She likes to perch on my shoulder and pull my hair.

I have been a member of the faculty in the Fisheries and Wildlife program at Arkansas Tech University since 1991 where I teach courses in ornithology, herpetology, animal behavior and forest ecology. My research focus has been mostly on avian ecology, management and conservation. I recently completed a study in collaboration with one of my graduate students on rusty blackbirds. I have also studied northern bobwhite quail, loggerhead shrikes, eastern bluebirds, Bells Vireos and cerulean warblers.

However, as a child, I developed a passion for reptiles and amphibians and I have recently rekindled that passion by initiating a study on prairie lizards. My hobbies include birding, cycling and hiking. I combine cycling and birding by keeping a list of the birds I see and hear on my rides. Each year I set a goal of 2000 miles and 100 species.
