Pollinators: Why we need them and how to attract them
HSV Audubon will welcome Minnie Hahn, senior manager of design and display at Garvan Woodland Gardens, as guest speaker for its June 12 program titled “All about the Birds and the Bees.”
JUNE 12, 2025, 10 A.M.
CORONADO CENTER AUDITORIUM
What’s all the buzz about? Pollinators have become a hot topic in the media, but why? In this presentation Hahn will briefly touch on the different types of pollinators, some of which you might not have even thought about, as well as how to develop habitat to support them in yards, gardens, or green spaces
She will also discuss why no effort is too small and bust the myth that plantings for pollinators always look wild and messy.
About the speaker
Hahn has been an avid gardener since she was able to hold a trowel, and became interested in the design aspects of landscaping through the influence of a close family friend who was a landscape architect in Washington, D.C.
During her college years, she studied landscape design and obtained a teaching license for high school science. While pursuing a master’s degree in horticulture at Kansas State University, she worked as a landscape designer for a local company, with K-State Research and Extension, and worked for the Denver Zoological Gardens.
After graduating, Minnie and her three fur babies moved to the Kansas City, Kansas, area to be near family, where she taught high school science for eight years.
In 2014 Minnie followed her passion for gardening and design to Hot Springs, Arkansas, and has since become the senior manager of design and display at Garvan Woodland Gardens, where she is able to apply her knowledge and artistic talent in both horticulture and design.
The program will be June 12, 10 a.m., in the Coronado Center auditorium.
