Survival by Degrees

MEETING CANCELED

Dr. Dan "the Birdman" Scheiman is our guest speaker for March, with a program entitled "Survival by Degrees" about the heavy loss of our bird population, and what we can do to save our birds.

Dr. Scheiman is Bird Conservation Director for Audubon Arkansas, a state office of the National Audubon Society, based at the Little Rock Audubon Center. He has a B.S. from Cornell University, M.S. from Eastern Illinois University, and Ph.D. from Purdue University.

Dr. Scheiman and his coworkers monitor birds, restore wildlife habitat, and help Arkansans improve their local environments.

A new study from National Audubon Society scientists reveals climate change is the number one threat to birds. Using the latest climate science modeling with an expanded pool of bird data,

Audubon shows that two-thirds of North American birds are more vulnerable than ever from rising temperatures and climate-related events like sea-level rise, droughts, fires, and extreme weather.

The good news is that our science also shows that if we take action now we can improve the chances for the majority of species at risk from climate change. Our birds are telling us that it’s time to act now.
