Attracting birds to your yard

HSV Audubon is offering a special fall program "How to Attract Birds to Your Yard"  featuring experts on birding, plants and bird supplies, Friday, October 13, 10:00 a.m. at Coronado Center Auditorium.

Like people, birds require food, water and shelter.  Attract birds to your yard and keep them coming back by offering a variety of quality seed to satisfy different birds, fresh water for drinking and bathing, and plants for cover and as a natural food source.

Here's your chance to ask the experts for tips on making the most of your yard space, while helping birds adapt to cooler weather and shifting food sources.

  • Jim Allen, the owner of Wild Birds Unlimited in Little Rock, will be presenting backyard birding strategies and have examples of products and food. As our special guest speaker he will help us - help them (Village birds) - prepare for the winter. Jim will bring new ideas and ways to improve our winter experience.  For several years Wild Birds Unlimited in Little Rock has been our partner in birdseed sales. Let's see what else we can do together!
  • Rush Fentress, Director of Education at Garvan Woodland Gardens, will have plants available to purchase, all propagated at Garvan.
  • Master Gardeners will be on hand to answer your questions about bird-friendly native plants.
  • HSV Audubon will have a food preference chart for migratory and resident birds and will offer top quality bird seed and handcrafted wooden bird supplies. Ask for “Farewell to Hummingbirds” that details fact and fiction about these tiny warriors.
