American Bald Eagle: a comback story
HSV Audubon is pleased to welcome Emily Stubblefield back to the Village to talk about the American bald eagle and its comeback story.
Although there are some residential eagles at Ouachita State Park, Stubblefield will focus on the migratory birds that visit the park from November through February. “Eagle season” started at the park with the first eagle tour on Nov. 2, and the tours will continue for the next four months.
Stubblefield said that after a request had been entered to take the American bald eagle off the endangered species list, the birds suffered a minor setback in the 1990s. She will discuss the investigation into the causes of the setback and how scientists managed to find some solutions. The population has been on the rise since 2005.
Emily Stubblefield joined Lake Ouachita State Park as park interpreter in April of 2021. She has been with Arkansas State parks since 2019; she started her career as a seasonal interpreter at DeGray Lake Resort State Park. She has combined her passion of being outdoors and helping others in her career choice. Seeing visitors make a lasting connection with the natural resources around them and make lifelong memories in the Natural State is what inspired her to step into the world of interpretation.
Did you know?
Lake Ouachita is in the flight path of the “Mississippi Flyway”. This is a direct route, much like a bird superhighway, that many migratory birds follow each season. This flyway follows the Mississippi River and is used by 325 different species of birds each year!
