Wild Turkey Basics

HSV Audubon is pleased to welcome back Kristen Robinson, south regional coordinator in the Education Division of the Arkansas Game and Fish Commission (AGFC), who will speak to members and guests on “Wild Turkey Basics” on Sept. 10.

Kristen will explore the basics of wild turkey biology, habitat, diet, identification, and communication, along with turkey calling techniques and Arkansas hunting trends, harvest data, and season information.

Kristen will be bringing props —- always a nice surprise!

Kristen works with schools in south Arkansas to bring conservation topics to students, while also supporting teachers as they use these lessons during the school year. This is part of the Outdoor Education Initiative, established by Gov. Sarah Huckabee Sanders in 2025. “I believe this is a great way to get students outdoors and create a new generation of conservationists,” Kristen said.

Kristen has been with AGFC for seven years; she worked at the agency while in school and has now been there full-time for more than two years. She grew up learning to hunt and fish to feed her family, while also keeping a deep appreciation for the outdoors.

While in college at Arkansas Tech University, she became fascinated by birds after taking an ornithology course. She’s an avid turkey hunter and loves “to hear a gobble echo through the mountains on a clear, crisp spring morning as the sun rises.”

Having these experiences made her want to share the outdoor world with others, and it is her lifelong goal to help guide the next generation.
