Voice Your Concerns about Dicamba at the Plant Board's Hearing on December 11
The following is submitted for your consideration. Let your voice be heard!
- Norma Wall, President, HSV Audubon
AR Plant Board Public Hearing on Dicamba Use
Wednesday, December 11
Embassy Suites (11301 Financial Centre Pkwy, Little Rock, AR 72211)
Doors open at 8:30 am. Hearing begins at 9:30 am.
Make your voice heard that permitting the use of dicamba through May 25 is bad for birds and our environment! Scientific consensus says dicamba is too volatile.
Audubon Arkansas is against spraying dicamba over the top of crops during warm weather. As the weather warms, this herbicide's volatility increases, meaning even days later it can kill nearby native plants, which in turn harms birds and pollinators. Audubon Arkansas and our community scientists have documented harmful effects on nearby trees and other native plants!

Previous post:
There is a real chance that the original April 16 cutoff (an effective ban) could be reinstated at the Dec. 11 public hearing. A groundswell of public comments will bouy that effort by helping to sway Board members who are on the fence.
Audubon is the only conservation organization in AR that has spoken up. Those in the agricultural sector whose livelihoods are impacted by dicamba have expressed appreciation for us. Let's continue to show our support, speak up for the birds, and stand against the big herbicide manufacturers that put profit over sustainable agriculture.
