2024 Bluebird Committee Report

Another Bluebird season has come to an end. I’m rating 2024 as pretty good, not as good as last year but better than 2022 and 2021. You’ll find all the statistics in the supplemental data report. Judging from the many call/texts I received the predator situation (not buffalo gnats) was more than what’s reflected in the data report. There were several damaged boxes during the season also.

I believe it was at the February Audubon meeting that I asked for volunteers and the response was outstanding. Newbies included three monitors and nine backup monitors that were trained. Three more members were shown the ropes to see if they would be interested in monitoring going forward. Thank you all for stepping up. I also want to thank Kathie Riedel who retired from monitoring at the Coronado Center after 15 years. Angela and John Taylor also retired after 15 years at Ponce deLeon Golf Course.

As always, I want to take the opportunity here to recognize all of our monitors and backup monitors. Our program would not be successful without them.

THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU!

Besides our volunteer monitors I need to thank some additional people. Judy Collins who helps me make the rounds early in the year to inspect the boxes making sure they are in good condition for nesting and to make minor repairs. Adolph Juarez who does all the construction work. Also, Kurt, John, Wayne and Vic, who provide the muscle. I couldn’t do this job without you!

Following is a five year recap:

Please refer to the supplemental data report for more details. This report lists the number of HSV Audubon bluebird box locations on each of our 9 golf courses, Woodlands/Grove Park, the Coronado Center and the respective results for 2023.
