Hot Springs Village welcomed a new police officer this year – K9 Officer Nala. Most Villagers have heard her story by now, but not many have seen her in action.
HSV Audubon welcomed Nala, her handler, Officer Elvis Caple, and Police Chief Kristi Bennett for a presentation on Dec. 12, at the Coronado Center auditorium to 145 members and visitors.
Nala is a 2-year-old Belgian Malinois, who has been through training in search and rescue, article recovery, and drug detection. Chief Bennett said that Officer Nala has already been in on a couple of drug busts.
Many community groups have stepped up to support Nala and make sure she had everything she needs to be well equipped and healthy.
The officers disucssed Nala’s duties and capabilities, and conducted a demonstration of her skills. She is “ball motivated” and Officer Elvis uses that as her primary training tool.
